Fear and anxiety about going to the dentist is a very common problem among many people, and it can even prevent them from having dental work that may be vital to the health and appearance of their teeth and gums. Dr. Bradley A. Ross and our team here at Mission Trails Dentistry understand the nervousness you may feel. That’s why we have engaged the latest in sedation (sleep) dentistry techniques to make your visit with us as pleasant and pain-free as possible. At Mission Trails Dentistry, we can put you in a state of such deep relaxation that you may not even know you had the procedure until it’s complete!

Mission Trails Dentistry is more conscious about their patients’ needs and level of comfort. They provided me with the BEST dental experience I ever had! Ricardo O.

With conscious sedation dentistry, there are no intravenous anesthetics involved and you will not be entirely unconscious during your dental procedure. Conscious sedation dentistry is a means of putting you in an extremely relaxed state – the point to which you may not feel anything that’s happening, but you will be able to communicate with those around you. The technique is designed to help those who have dental anxiety, or completely avoid the dentist, for reasons such as:

  • Fear of needles
  • Sensitive teeth
  • Fear of dental treatments
  • Fear of dentists
  • Discomfort with tastes and noises associated with dental procedures
  • Dental issues that could require long treatment times
  • Difficulty feeling numb after Novocaine injections

It has been the best experience to be a patient of Mission Trails Dentistry. Truly professional, friendly & the best service…. – Cynthia P.

How it Works

Conscious sedation dentistry involves the taking of a small pill about an hour before you arrive for your procedure. The pill will make you drowsy, so you will need someone to drive you to your appointment. Once your procedure begins, you will not be completely asleep. At all times, you will be able to talk with our dentist and our care team. A member of our staff will constantly monitor your vital signs during treatment to ensure that everything is okay. Remember, conscious sedation only mimics sleep – you will be in an intensely relaxed state, not unconscious. The whole point of conscious sedation dentistry is to make it possible for you to not experience pain or discomfort during your procedure. Once treatment is complete, you will likely not even remember it taking place.

Keep in mind that it can take two to six hours for the total effects of conscious sedation to wear off, so you will need to arrange for someone to help you get back to your home.

IV Sedation

For those with extreme anxiety, as well as those who may require extensive procedures and oral surgery, Mission Trails Dentistry also offers IV sedation using a dental anesthesiologist in our office.

Dental technology and treatment techniques have advanced significantly over the last several years, and sedation dentistry techniques are a part of that.

Don’t let fear and anxiety keep you from having necessary dental work and a beautiful smile! Please contact Mission Trails Dentistry for more details.
